Still here...

...80's over the weekend, and today it's snowing! Spring in Colorado...

Lately I've been writing essays for one of ADF's study programs, and have put two of them up on this site on this page. Enjoy!

The Prequel

In the 1st century AD, the Roman armies are conquering Britain: they have destroyed the Druid sanctuaries and savagely crushed Boudicca's revolt. In these desparate days, knowing his own death is imminent, the last Archdruid of Ynys Mon engenders a son. The boy's mission will be to defeat the Roman invaders and preserve his father's tradition. But can he possibly survive long enough to achieve his goal?

The Storyteller series: The First Trilogy

In the first book in the series, fifteen-year-old Gwernin sets off on a journey around 6th century Wales, earning his way as a storyteller. Maybe, one day, he will be a real bard...

In the second book in the series, bardic apprentice Gwernin and his friend Neirin mab Dwywei are sent on a diplomatic mission to the North of Britain. But some of the natives aren't too friendly...

The third book in the series. In 6th century Wales the ash spear was a symbol of warfare and of manhood, but it also stood for awen, the poetic inspiration of the bards...

The second Storyteller trilogy..

This fourth book in the Storyteller series takes Taliesin and Gwernin to Ireland to attend a wedding as representatives of their princes. In the process, they find themselves in a web of politics and magic, in a time of conflict between Kings, Christian saints, and Druids.

A stand-alone spinoff from "The Fallen Stones"

The Chronicle of Ireland reports that in the mid-sixth century Fráechán mac Tenusán cast the "druidical fence" over the army of High King Díarmait mac Cerbaill at the battle of Cul Dreimne, and that Díarmait lost that battle due to "the prayers of Colum Cille" (Saint Columba). But how could there have been a practicing Druid in the King of Tara's court in the Age of the Saints?

The Fifth Storyteller Book

In this 5th book in the "Storyteller" series, Gwernin Storyteller and his student Llacheu travel through SW 6th century Britain with Taliesin, visiting ancient sacred sites and participating in bardic competitions. Along the way they meet threats from their past, Gwernin discovers some of the Old Gods of Britain are still present, and Taliesin shares his memories of his time as King Arthur's bard.

The 6th book

In this 6th book of the Storyteller series, Master Bard Gwernin Storyteller first participates in a bardic initiatory ritual for Taliesin Ben Beirdd's student Mael, then goes to Ireland with the two of them and his son Ianto in order to visit their friend the Archdruid Fráechán mac Tenusán again. In the process, Gwernin hears more stories of the ancient Druid Mac Criomthann, witnesses the fate Fráechán had once foretold for High King Diarmait mac Cerbaill, and learns something about himself at the Well of Wisdom which he had never imagined.

Poetry Books

My first published poetry consisted of "King Arthur's Raid on Hell" and "Pryderi's Pigs". The material in these two books has recently been combined in "10 Years A Bard: Poetry from the Current Middle Ages". I also have "Songs of Wales: A Poetry Collection" and "Druid Songs: Poetry of Praise and Prayer for the Druid Kind". These are all available from Amazon.com and/or Smashwords.com.
