Yesterday morning. It's finally beginning to look and feel like Winter.

Sunday...

A cold morning after last night's storm - winter is advancing upon us. A good day to stay indoors, reading, thinking, and sewing... and working on the next book.

Friday...

What a difference a day makes... Woke up this morning expecting to see the first frost of the season, and instead saw this...

We'll see what's left when it melts off - which it's already doing - but I think I can safely say that summer is over.

Still here...

...80's over the weekend, and today it's snowing! Spring in Colorado...

april 009

Lately I've been writing essays for one of ADF's study programs, and have put two of them up on this site on this page. Enjoy!

Still here...

The weather's been variable lately - mild sunny weather last week, then this:

...followed by a mild sunny weekend which melted most of the new snow. Spring in the Rockies.

I've been making more ogam sets lately. It gives me a nice excuse to be outside on sunny days, when my gardening instincts are stirring but the ground's still frozen. Spring is starting in the cold frame, though:

Soon it will be time to start tomato seeds...

Monday...

Busy reading and researching, also making more ogam sets. A little fresh snow this morning, but now it's sunny and windy. Spring in the cold frame:

But still winter in the garden:

That's all for now...

Wednesday...

Spent a lot of the last few days shoveling snow. We got 17 inches between Thursday evening and midday Saturday, then another 3 inches Monday night. Not my idea of fun! It set a new record for February.

Still here...

Still here and busy, just not keeping up with the blog...

Three snowstorms in the last week:

winter 007

About a foot of snow on the ground now, and the high today was around 16 deg. F...

I think we'll have a white Christmas (& Yule)!

Friday...

Conditions here are drifting back toward seasonal normal now. A lot of the snow has melted, but by no means all:

Thursday...

No post yesterday because I was offline all day due to a power outage. Denver had its first autumn snowstorm, and it was a big one:

october 013

I think we got about 8 inches here, though it's hard to be sure. The several days before had been warm and sunny, and I spent them frantically preparing house and garden for what we got. One of Tuesday's last tasks: potato and beet harvest:

No writing yesterday as I had intended because no power. I could have used the netbook, of course, but wasn't sure how long it would be before I could recharge the battery. A few years ago after a late spring blizzard I was out for three days... Thankfully, only 22 hours this time!

Monday...

A fine spring morning - not!

Oh well, we need the moisture.

Here's a more seasonal shot from yesterday...

(It's stopped snowing now, but I don't think I'll be doing much gardening today!)

Friday...

A little snow overnight, which made for good dawn photography. Here's one example:

A nice contrast with yesterday:

Still more gardening than writing going on here at the moment, but that will change soon. In the meantime, check out the rest of my March photos.

Snowing again today; about 4 inches so far, I think.

More snow to shovel, then back to work.

Monday...

Spent yesterday shoveling snow and working of The Druid's Son. More of the same today (well, minus the shoveling -- that comes tomorrow morning...).

Tuesday...

Whew! Winter has come back with a vengeance. Temperature by my back door this morning is -12 F., and tonight is supposed to be colder. After starting with freezing drizzle, it snowed gently all day yesterday, although the total accumulation is only about 3 inches. We canceled Welsh class tonight - no weather to be out in if you can help it.

Sunday...

I've done a little writing today, but it's coming slow. Weather's about like yesterday - 40s and partly to mostly cloudy. Looking out a little while ago, I caught this shot of Titus getting a drink...

Tuesday...

-6 deg. F. this morning at sunrise, after a clear night, and the highest I saw yesterday was 18 F. Weather's supposed to warm up a bit today, though, and a lot more tomorrow.

There were fox tracks on my front porch yesterday, clear to see in the light dusting of snow that had drifted under the roof in the storm, and more tracks - one circuit's worth - in the back yard this morning. The fox population seems to have crashed sometime last summer, and I've been curious to see what the snow would show me. The occasional fox is one thing, but the possibility of coyotes worries me more, with their predilection for eating cats. So far, though, just a fox...

I got a bit of writing done yesterday, together with a lot more consulting of reference materials. Gwernin has reached Ireland, and I wanted to be sure I got the geography and history of the Newgrange area right. We were there on our October 2009 trip, but two days in cloudy / drizzly weather aren't really enough. Fortunately my map and reference collection covers the ground fairly well.

Monday...

Still rather off schedule, but this time because I was (actually) writing. Very cold here, and 6-7 inches of new snow as of this morning. At least it's easy to shovel when it's like this...

Still here...

Yes, I've missed a couple of days; no, there's been no problem, just life. Quiet and snowing here today, so maybe I'll catch up. In the meantime, another photo from our last snow...

new year's day, 2011

Missed posting Friday, party because I forgot it *was* Friday. Thursday was my last day at work. An arctic cold front came in that morning, and by the time I left at midday it was snowing furiously, so I was glad to leave, and glad to get home. I think we had between 3 and 4 inches of snow here - not that much, but our first in a while. Yesterday was bitter cold, and last night even colder - a few degrees below 0 F., I think. And now I'm starting my third career.

A cold picture today:

snow on rowan tree

Good weather for writing, though - there's no temptation to go out and work in the garden!

Happy New Year to all...
